1. Turn the Water Line off
Before anything else, you need to turn the valve of the water line off. This will prevent you from drenching yourself with water. However, if you do not have a water line knob underneath the sink, you should shut off the main line.
2. Remove the Knob
Most of the Delta faucet comes with a screw-in knob. So, you have to turn the handle and take it off.
While it is out, it would be an excellent time to clean the inside of the knob. The gunk inside can make the knob stiff and hard to use.
3. Take out the Screw from the Knob Assembly
Get yourself a screwdriver and unscrew the fastener that is inside the assembly.
Taking this screw out will enable you to get the bottom housing of the knob out. Gently pull it out.
4. Remove the Nut and Pull the Cartridge out
Once you get the bottom assembly out, you should see the actual cartridge. However, there will be a nut around it.
To take this nut out, you will need an Allen wrench. Use it to unscrew the nut and remove it from the sink.
Make the wrench grab the top portion and pull it out to get the actual cartridge out.
When it feels a little stiff, move the cartridge a little from left and right while pulling it out. It should eventually come out.
That said, there will be a small washer underneath the cartridge. You need to keep it in the same position.
5. Install the New Cartridge
You can put the new one in place when the old cartridge is out. But make sure that it is the correct replacement cartridge for your Delta faucet.
Otherwise, there can be a leakage in the knob. On that note, if you find that the old washer is damaged, you should replace it too.
Damaged washers will cause the faucet to leak. So, keep this in mind when you are putting in the new cartridge.
6. Reassemble All the Parts
After putting in the new cartridge, carefully put all the parts back in place.
That means you have first put the cartridge nut, place the bottom housing back, screw in the fastener, and turn the knob. Basically, follow the steps in reverse.
